I am a
sucker for cartoons. Especially old school ones, like the Disney classics. And
one of my favorites happens to have cats as protagonists – how could I but
include it on my inspiration list? So here it goes: straight down from the
screen and into the street, Thomas O’Malley from ‘The Aristocats’. O’Malley the alley cat.

Thomas O'Malley appears in the movie right after Duchess and
her kittens wake up after being drugged and thrown away by Edgar, their owner’s
valet. Thomas makes an introduction, showing he is a streetwise cat, a sort of
a feline Casanova, careless and free, who enjoys growing no roots and going
wherever life takes him.
Meeting Duchess, Thomas is attracted to her and courts her,
but is soon put off by the fact that she has kittens. He nevertheless offers
his help to get them on a truck back to Paris, their home city. After all,
behind his alley cat manners, there lies a good soul, ready to help those in
need – but about this, next time, when we go deeper into this beautiful
animated story.
For now, we focus on this alley cat’s first appearance. For
this, I imagined an outfit that combines an elegant feel and a more sportive
aspect: Thomas is a stray, alley cat, but with a good humor and who ups his
game once he sees something – or someone – he wants. Therefore, the outfit ‘O’Malley the alley cat’ is a
mix of sporty and posh.
The trousers, made of French terry, a masculine fabric by
nature, have a fun look: they hit just below the knee, have a relaxed fit, but
come with some unexpected details for this king of jogging pants – side pockets,
waistband with a button, lateral rounded slits and detachable suspenders. This
way, they can easily transition to day wear for a relaxed weekend or for a
comfortable round of shopping.

The blouse however is a totally different story, the one
that shows the polished side of O’Malley
the alley cat. Made of crape and completely lined, with its ¾ feminine
sleeves, refined boat neckline, it is quite elegant – so elegant, that it takes
guts to wear it in this rather unusual combination with the jogging pants. But
if you’d rather be on the safe side, the beautiful color block blouse with its
subtle little details, such as the rounded slits on the sleeves and the hidden
pockets, can be easily worn with anything casual or elegant, from jeans to
pencil skirt. But for this, stay tuned till next time.
