COMPLETE
NAME:
Better known as
Thomas O’Malley, the full name of the male protagonist in Disney’s animation
film ’The Aristocats’ is Abraham DeLacey
Giuseppe Casey Thomas O'Malley.
PERSONALITY:
Thomas O’Malley is a streetwise, carefree, Romeo of a tomcat
who enjoys a life without rules or responsibilities. However, Thomas has it in
him to be also kind, helping, caring and even fatherly and heroic if need be.
VOICE:
Phil Harris, the same actor who gave his voice to Baloo the
bear in ’The Jungle Book’, is the one who voices O’Malley as well. This is
quite interesting, as these two cartoons are related in a more sensitive way,
too: ’The Jungle Book’ is the last animation film in the making of which Walt
Disney himself was involved, while ’The Aristocats’ is the first done after the
cartoons genius passed away. In light of this fact, it may not be too far-fetched to view these two characters who see the world as their backyard as
some sort of Walt Disney’s aliases, a man known for creating new, fun and full
of imagination worlds for himself and for all of us.

DESTINY AND SIMILARITIES WITH OTHER
CHARACTERS:
Thomas O’Malley not only shares the same voice with
Baloo, but also some other traits:
- Both are careless and free spirits
- Both show an interest in helping the helpless and make good father figures
- Both have a great sense of honor and duty, even against their own benefit
Thomas O'Malley also has notable similarities to Tramp, the main male
character in ’Lady and the Tramp’, another great Disney cartoon:
- Both O’Malley and Tramp are stray animals, who fall in love with a pet (Duchess and Lady, respectively)
- Both are free wanderers
- Both end up saving their beloved ladies more than once
- Both give up their life on the streets to live with their new families and have family photos taken
- Both have a son who looks like them, though Scamp is Tramp’s biological son, while Toulouse is only O’Malley’s adopted son (though on several occasions Toulouse also displays what he considers stray cat behavior :))
